KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Holly Gover, PhD, BCBA-D

Prioritizing Assent and Choice When Addressing Food Selectivity

Presentation topic: Food selectivity is a widespread challenge for children, especially those with autism, yet clinical resources remain limited. This engaging keynote will explore a reinforcement-based intervention designed to encourage children to try new and non-preferred foods while maintaining autonomy through choice-making opportunities. The approach emphasizes gradual reinforcement, allowing children to opt in and out of treatment. Attendees will gain insights into extending these strategies to older individuals, implementing interventions in schools and homes, and integrating trauma-informed care. Practical applications for clinicians and future research directions will also be discussed.

Empirical Support Or Social Validity: Finding Parsimony In A Fast-Paced Field

Presentation topic: Behavior analysis is a rapidly advancing field. Despite roughly 100 years of behavior analytic practice influencing our practice, we are far from learning everything there is to know. When new topics emerge, they are often met with skepticism, and maybe a small dose of cynicism, which makes further application of new concepts challenging. But what if we have a greater need today? A need that can't wait for years of literature to catch up? In this talk, Dr. Spiker will discuss some new and emerging ideas in behavior analysis and weigh the risks of implementation using the example of trauma-informed care as a guide.
